Willeymore Lock

We’ve now finished this year’s adventure on Vagabond – we are moored up in sight of the Willeymore Lock Tavern ready for tonight’s meal and handover tomorrow.

Our trip has consisted of around 75 miles of canal, 28 locks, 14 lift bridges, 6 tunnels, 4 aquaducts and 4 narrow sections. It’s been a great time, helped by a lot of decent summer weather. It’s just a shame that Barney hasn’t enjoyed being in the boat this trip – we certainly won’t be inviting him again…

Platt Lane & Whixall Moss

After an uneventful 15 miles cruising ‘downhill’, we’ve arrived at a (hopefully) peaceful spot just before the hubbub of Whitchurch.

Weather has been dry, but a bit overcast with not much sun.

Hindford (again)

Today has been busy – 2 narrow sections, 2 aquaducts, 2 tunnels and 2 locks. And 11 miles of canal…
We are now back in England near Hindford, where we were a few days ago, but in a more isolated spot with a better Internet connection.
A shower was forecast for 5pm tonight, and, sure enough, 2 minutes after we had moored, there was a clap of thunder and it started raining – though there hasn’t been much. The Bank Holiday must be approaching!

Escape from Llangollen

We have managed to escape from the confines of Llangollen, back over the Pontcysylite aqueduct, and are on the ‘normal’ canal just north of Chirk.

The weather is still good, though with the possibility of a shower later.
