Budapest – Basilica

Next stop was St Stephens Cathedral, nicely located in a pedestrian area of the city.

As Catholic Cathedrals go, this one was reasonably restrained!

The last photo is a gold cask that contains the actual hand of St Stephen – just insert a suitable coin to illuminate it…

Budapest – Heroes’ Square

A hot day in Budapest; we had a local guide and a coach to tour the city.

First stop was Heroes’ Square, various monuments related to the foundation of Hungary.

Unfortunately, much of the square was being prepared for a concert, so there was a lot of scaffolding around.

After this, we viewed the city park, spa, various castles and important buildings from the coach.

An early beer

This is the same train service that we used from Munich to Vienna, and we remembered that they have good beer available on the train (well, good for a train). We have started with the Alcohol Free version though to be fair, we like the taste of this better than their normal one.

Train to Budapest

We’re now on the train to Budapest – the usual struggle getting on – this would be so much easier if the doors at each end of the carriages had the seat number range shown…

Free WiFi and power outlets for our phones also makes the journey better.

Vienna Part 2

We took the U-bahn back into town and found a beer:

Then we took the train to a station over the Danube, and explored a park on a long island in the River.

Vienna also has lots of trams, so a couple of these were next

Time for another beer, then a walk through the centre past the cathedral and back to the hotel.
