Pendennis Point

We went to Pendennis Point this afternoon, which is a small peninsula just outside Falmouth.

We viewed the docks and town first:

And then went for a walk around the castle moat, which is quite extensive.

We then stopped at the point itself, with some lovely views of the estuary.

We then had a walk along the main ‘tourist’ street in Falmouth; nothing exceptional but the harbour was nice.

Then after some shopping, time for a cup of tea at the cottage!

Glendurgan Garden

This morning, we visited Glendurgan Garden, which is quite close to the cottage, but a fairly long drive over slow, hilly, narrow, windy roads.

Unlike a lot of National Trust properties these days, it isn’t dog friendly, so I took Rocco to the beach for a swim while Tina viewed the garden.

I then left Tina and Rocco at the café, and walked around the gardens.

The path led down to a small village and beach, not far from where I was earlier.

Then the climb back up!

An enjoyable morning in the sunshine.

Poldu Cove and Church Cove

We stopped briefly at Mullion Cove, but it had a dog ban and an expensive car park about a mile away, so headed to Poldu Cove.

This was also dog unfriendly, but nice to look at from above.

We then parked on a cliff above Church Cove, and Rocco and I walked down to Dollar Cove so that he could cool down in the sea.

He was much happier playing in the waves this time!

On the way back, we found a deep river for him to rinse off in, so we returned with a clean but wet dog.

Housel Bay

After lunch, Rocco and I needed some more exercise, so we followed the coast path east to Housel Bay.

More dramatic scenery. I had hoped to visit the Lizard Wireless Station, but it wasn’t open.

Instead, we chilled out on a small outcrop in the sunshine.

and returned by a shorter inland route.

The Lizard

We drove down to the most southerly point in England, nice (NT) car park.

The usual cafés and gift shops of course!

We then took the coast path along the cliffs to the west. Glorious weather and surprisingly not windy for a cliff top!

We then headed inland to Lizard village, and currently enjoying a welcome beer.

Morning Walk

A lovely sunny start to the day today, and we explored a new route for the morning walk.

Later on, I saw a path through the woods that wasn’t shown on the map. It had the look of a local ‘dog walkers’ path, and then a dog walker arrived and we walked around this circular path – obviously part of an estate at some time.

Gunwalloe

Gunwalloe is on the coast only a few miles south of Penrose, but it was quite a long drive due to the roads winding around the hills.

One of coves had a dog ban, but the other, more interesting one, was dog friendly.

Tina looked at a small church there (electoral roll of 6 people), then Rocco and I then climbed a small outcrop with lovely views.

A nice spot.

Penrose

Another National Trust place, but woods and seashore rather than a posh house!

First off, a morning coffee!

We then followed a good path through woods and fields down to the seashore.

Rocco had obviously never seen the sea before…

But did have a bit of a paddle. Behind a sand bar was a freshwater lake, and we took the opportunity to wash him – necessary because he’d rolled in a cow pat earlier.

We then climbed back up and followed a path around the lake (“The Loe”) back to the car, grabbing various geocaches along the way.

A nice 5 mile walk!
